- After the Storm
This painting was the result of an inspiration. I was Having a party and a blank space on my wall above a couch begged for a painting. I thought of the Mendocino coast in Northern California, a place where my husband and I love to walk on the beach in weather fair or stormy and feel the power of the mighty pacific.
I went to work, and working from memory, completeted this painting in about four hours on a 24 x 48 canvas.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed creating it.

Teacher copyright by Joni M. McPherson
This is a painting I did many years ago. We were living in Arnold, California, in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, surrounded by pine and cedar forest.
My granddaughter came to visit and she loved to read and pretend that she was a teacher. I posed her at the trunk of a big cedar, with some teddy bears. She is teaching them to read.
Does art imitate life or is it the other way around? Can art predict the future? The little girl in the painting is now 24 years old, has her master’s degree and teaches first grade.
When I published my first book, Original Art Creations by Joni, my husband wrote a poem to go with the painting. I would like to share it with you:
Teacher
I cannot teach you what to think
Perhaps not even how
But listen closely with your ears
To what’s been said throughout the years
By brilliant, contemplative minds
Those who think between the lines
And while you listen to those words
You let the ancient bards emerge
You sit enchanted by their spell
Their wisdom is the deepest well
Then you notice something strange
Each story is different yet still the same
Fresh ideas that never change
Thoughts arise in their own way
You’re hearing what they did not say
They cannot tell you what to do
That part, they say, is up to you.
